EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW
WHERE ARE THE CLASSES?
The pool address is 6146 Rushing Parc Lane, Hoover, AL 35244. You will be instructed where to park in the email that you receive the weekend before the lessons. Please park where assigned. When you arrive, please walk back to the pool area. Each class will rotate either parking on the road or in the driveway. Arrive dressed to swim. There is no changing area available. Lessons will start promptly on time. Please have your child ready to enter the pool as soon as the lesson begins.
WHAT IS EXPECTED FROM MY CHILD?
Lessons are in small groups to accommodate different level swimmers. Your child will be required to put their face in the water. Your child will be required to enter the water during his/her turn. Swimmers will sit on the pool ledge during their turn.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FROM THE BEGINNER CLASS?
The class goal is for your child to be able to safely swim to the side of the pool. Depending on their age, your child should be able to swim 5-10 feet at the end of the course. Some will do much more than this. Please have realistic goals for each child. If your child screams the first 3 days....that’s okay. We will be consistent and they will learn to swim! It just may take more than one session.
HOW DO I KNOW IF MY CHILD IS READY FOR LESSONS?
Children must be 2 to take classes from Kicking with Katie. They need to be able to walk unassisted, follow simple instructions, and remain seated on the edge of the pool when waiting on their turn. Most children under the age of 2 lack the coordination to excel in Katie's classes. Katie recommends an Infant survival course if your child is less than 2. Katie does not teach this class.
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?
Bring a towel and your child in their swim clothes. No goggles can be used during a lesson. No puddle jumpers or flotation devices are needed. Please don't bring them. If your child is not potty trained, swim diapers are required. No reusable swim diapers allowed.
MAY I STAY AND WATCH MY CHILD?
You can stand outside the gate where the pool is in full view. We do lessons on the opposite side of the pool. While I cannot guarantee that you will see your child the entire time, it will definitely be the majority. You can enter with 10 minutes remaining where they can “show” you what they have learned. On Friday, there will be more time for viewing and going over things to work on.
DOES MY CHILD HAVE TO PUT HIS/HER FACE IN THE WATER?
Children cannot learn to swim without their face being in the water. Your child's face will be going under water.
WILL MY CHILD BE REWARDED?
Katie normally gives out Ring Pops or a popsicle at the end of the lesson. If you don't want your child to have a Ring Pop or popsicle, please let Katie know. This is an incentive for the children to do well. While she wants everyone to get a Ring Pop, she reserves the right to take them away if they don't "earn" it. They will be warned several times prior to losing it. Again, we want this to be a way of encouraging them to reach swim goals.
DO I GET IN THE WATER WITH MY CHILD?
You will not be getting into the pool. Katie will be the only one in the water with your children. Don't wear your swimsuit.
CAN MY OTHER CHILDREN ATTEND THE LESSON?
Siblings cannot swim during the lesson time. The pool is open for lessons only.
IS THE POOL HEATED?
Yes. the pool is heated and will remain heated until it is not needed.
WILL MY CLASS BE MADE UP?
Classes canceled for weather safety reasons will be made up at a later date decided by Katie. No make ups will be given for any other reason, including but not limited to swimmer's vacations, illness, or previously scheduled plans.
